Wohlgemut is our Munichwine aged in Heaven Hill Bourbon Barrels. It’s a style Brad Clark the former brewer at JackieO’s now at Private Press in California, has created. It’s a barleywine using Munich malt as the base malt for an extra rich bready maltiness. Wohlgemut aged for 19 months in a Heaven Hill bourbon barrel and has notes of leather, prunes, and tobacco with boozy bourbon oak over caramel and dark bread crust.
Wohlgemut means cheerful and if you’re a fan of barleywines it’s sure to put you in a good mood. Some also use the word for their malt rake when floor malting barley, particularly apt for this malt forward beer.
